Welcome to the new MykoCD, the second CD-ROM version of MykoWeb, the Fungi of California (formerly Bay Area Fungi), and the MSSF websites. We hope this CD makes this mycological information more enjoyable to browse without the delays of the Internet. Also included in this CD are trailers from Taylor F. Lockwood's upcoming Treasures from the Kingdom of Fungi video/DVD, a screen saver, and a slide show: all extras not found on the web sites.

In an effort to give you an up-to-date version of our websites, MykoCD is now produced in small lots. You may check the date of the production of your CD on the CD label. Please remember, though, that the latest information and updates are on the web sites:

We had planned to make this CD useable on both PCs and the Mac. Because of unexpected difficulties and the current lack of MacIntosh test computers, this version of MykoCD will only run on 32 bit Windows computers (Windows 9x, Windows ME, Windows NT, Windows 2000, & Windows XP).

Included on MykoCD are two trailers from Taylor F. Lockwood's DVD, Treasures from the Kingdom of Fungi. Both a QuickTime version and a MPEG version have been included so virtually anyone can play one of these three minute videos. There is information about the Treasures from the Kingdom of Fungi DVD at Taylor's website, where you can also buy Taylor's wonderful book of the same name:

This is a "slide show" of all of the images from the MykoWeb "Large Photos" pages. It is best viewed at a browser resolution of 1024 X 768. To use this feature, choose "Slide Show" from the MykoCD menu. Or you can double-click on "SlideShow.bat" (or "SlideShow") in the root folder of the CD to start the presentation. In about six minutes you will view 80 high resolution mushroom photographs. The show will continue to loop until you press any key to stop the show. The slide show is done with the free-ware IrfanView program. If you want to install the IrfanView image viewer on your computer, navigate to the IrfanView folder on MykoCD and double-click on "iview361.exe".

To install the MykoCD screen saver, choose the "Screen Saver" option in the MykoCD menu. Follow the on-screen instructions until you see the "Display Properties" dialog box. At that time choose "MykoCd ScreenSaver" and click "OK". The screen saver works best at a resolution of 1024 X 768. The screen saver pictures will not be full screen on monitors of higher resolution and you will only see part of the pictures on monitors of lower resolution.
